The final test that you have to take is your PSI Exam! Make sure your background check is done first!

Once You're Licensed, Next Step is to Join NKAR

NKAR, Northern Kentucky Association of Realtors, is the local MLS and Board for Northern Kentucky. Once you are licensed you will need to join NKAR.

The time required to complete the course varies among agents. Some finish in as little as 60 days, while others may take up to six months to pass the PSI Exam from the start of the course. We recommend progressing through the course and the entire process as quickly as possible. Since you will be tested on the material covered on the first day, it’s helpful to retain that information while it is still fresh in your mind.

After you pass your Pre-Licensing Final you will need to sit for your PSI Exam. The PSI Exam is composed of a variety of multiple-choice questions about real estate law and the ethics and professional responsibilities of the real estate industry. You must pass the Kentucky Exam and the National Exam.

Your first step is to complete the Scholarship Application ($99) and that covers the cost of your pre-licensing program through Kaplan University. Next expense is your background check ($55), then your PSI Exam ($100/attempt), and then applying for your license ($134).

To earn your Kentucky real estate license, the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) requires that you are at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED. From there, you must complete 96 hours of approved pre-licensing education, pass an FBI criminal background check, pass the state licensing exam, and affiliate with a sponsoring brokerage like KW Realty Services to activate your license. You must score a 75% or higher on both sections of the exam. The test is administered by PSI and consists of 130 multiple-choice questions split into an 80-question national portion and a 50-question Kentucky law portion. If you pass one section but fail the other, you have 4 months to retake and pass the failed portion without rewriting the whole exam.

A real estate license alone does not legally allow you to buy or sell property in Kentucky—you must affiliate with a sponsoring broker. KW Realty Services provides newly licensed agents with world-class training, one-on-one mentorship, and cutting-edge technology. We don’t just help you clear the KREC hurdles; we provide the exact framework you need to build a highly profitable, sustainable real estate business from day one.

KWRS has a monthly fee of $95 and an annual KWRI fee of $25. Your E&O will be an annual fee of around $350 starting in March each year.
